A great general design guideline for living rooms is this: your furniture should have its front legs anchored to your rug. If the legs of your sofa (and surrounding furniture) don’t overlap your rug generously, it’s too small! Conversely, rugs are the perfect foundation in creating intentional spaces, and keep your interiors organized. Choosing your rug before any other furniture is very helpful in setting the tone and vibe of a room, and the size you choose will dictate just about everything around it!
A TV in the living room is not everyone’s cup of tea. For folks who require a TV, the common rule is that a 65″ TV should be mounted about 65″ from the floor to the center of the TV. (TIP: if you’re straining your neck while watching football, your TV is hung too high!)
Your furnishing textiles are more intentional and important that you might think. Your living room should be used and enjoyed! The last thing you want after investing in that gorgeous new sofa is a stain from your toddler. Using performance upholstery might cost a bit more upfront, but it will save you money in the long run!
