Almost 100 years old. Just getting started.
Some houses are worth waiting for. Others show up when you least expect them. The 1928 Estate was a little bit of both.
Tucked into a historic Phoenix neighborhood, just steps from the Phoenix Country Club, this Spanish Colonial beauty has nearly a century of stories to tell. Built in 1928, she's got the kind of character you simply can't recreate. Beautiful arches, original architectural details, plaster walls, and almost 100 years of history tucked into every corner. She's charming, a little quirky, and full of surprises. Naturally, I fell in love.
After more than two decades of designing homes for other people, and absolutely no rules about how many patterns can live in one room.
The goal was never to turn this house into something she's not. In fact, quite the opposite. I want to celebrate everything that makes her special while bringing in all the things I've collected, loved, and been inspired by over the years. Think vintage treasures, unexpected color combinations, fabulous fabrics, beautiful antiques, a little bit of whimsy, and plenty of pieces that make you stop and ask, "Where on earth did you find that?"
If you've followed my work for any amount of time, you know I've never been one for a house that looks like everyone else's. I believe the best interiors are collected over time, filled with things you genuinely love, and never too precious to actually live in. This house will be no exception. Some rooms might feel a little more traditional, others a little more adventurous. There will be patterns on patterns, art in unexpected places, and probably a few design decisions that make people raise an eyebrow. That's half the fun.
And while I have plenty of ideas for what this house will become, I'm not in a rush to figure it all out overnight. The exterior has already gotten a fresh coat of paint, and inside, I'm slowly introducing new layers of wallpaper, tile, furnishings, and all the little details that make a house feel like home. Some decisions are coming together beautifully. Others are still very much a work in progress. I'm enjoying the process of letting this house tell me what she needs.
Of course, there's something else that makes this project especially exciting. In 2028, the estate will celebrate her 100th birthday. And if there's one thing I love as much as a beautifully designed room, it's a good party. Over the next couple of years, I'll be bringing you along as we work toward that milestone, collaborating with some of my favorite brands, discovering new makers, and giving this old girl a celebration worthy of her first century.
This isn't just another Urban Revival project. It's my home, my creative playground, and quite possibly the most personal design project I've ever taken on.
She's almost 100, she's getting a fabulous makeover, and we're just getting started.
Welcome to the 1928 Estate. Just wait until you see what we do with her.
